Bansko
is situated in south western Bulgaria,
150 km from Sofia, at the foothills
of the Pirin mountains, one of the most
beautiful ranges in Bulgaria and a natural
preserve included in the World Natural
Heritage List.
The region
has a rich history of art, literature
and crafts dating back over 300 years.
Bansko is also well known for its old
stone houses, fine food and local wine,
referred to as ‘a divine drink
for the soul’.
Surrounded
by three mountain ranges, meadows and
rivers, Bansko has a unique location
and tradition of independence, its inhabitants
having fought off invaders dating back
to the Ottaman Empire.
The old town
centres around the ancient steep cobbled
street with a number of fine Bulgarian
style restaurants, craft shops and boutiques.
